Members Christen Smith and Sue Jiru brought their dogs to Ballard Nursing Center for a pet therapy enrichment visit, bringing smiles and connection to residents.
On January 27, 2026, Ada Sunrise Rotary members Christen Smith and Sue Jiru brought their dogs to Ballard Nursing Center for a pet therapy enrichment visit. Nellie the Frenchie, Bonnie the Yorkie, and Lizzy the Chihuahua were welcomed warmly by residents, providing moments of joy, laughter, and genuine connection. Activities Director Cindy coordinated the visit and helped make it a meaningful occasion for everyone involved.
Research consistently shows that interactions with animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve mood, particularly for older adults in long-term care settings. Pet therapy visits are a simple but impactful form of community service that requires no large budget, just willing members, friendly dogs, and a bit of time.
Service doesn't always look like a major project. Sometimes it looks like a wagging tail and a warm smile shared with someone who needed it that day.
